Simply put, Post Seat Holders are voting members of the Fulton County Democratic Party (FCDP). The FCDP exists as a matter of state law and constitutes the official Democratic Party for Fulton County, Georgia. Holding a Post Seat empowers you to vote on important business administered at the monthly FCDP Business Meetings, and in party elections conducted by the FCDP (such as those for Executive Committee Officers and State Committee Members). As well, holding a Post Seat qualifies you to run for some of these elected positions.

There are six available Post Seats for every State House District in Fulton County. If there is a vacant seat in your district, you may apply to fill it until the next even year General Primary Election. Post Seats 1-3 are elected in Presidential year General Primary Elections, Post Seats 4-6 are Elected in Gubernatorial year General Primary Elections. Post Seat terms are for two years, or until the next applicable General Primary Election.

HOW DO I APPLY FOR A POST SEAT?

First, you must be registered to vote in, and a resident of, Fulton County Georgia. Next, make sure you know which House District you live in. To find your Georgia House District, go to the Poll Locator on the Georgia Secretary of State's website. During the week of Candidate Qualifying (Presidential Election years), you may qualify to run for Post Seats 1, 2 or 3 in the General Primary Election. During the week of Candidate Qualifying (Gubernatorial Election years), you may qualify to run for Post Seats 4, 5 or 6 in the General Primary Elections.

WHAT IS A POST SEAT HOLDER?

Candidates may run whether or not the Post Seat they seek is currently occupied. Incumbent Post Seat Holders must qualify to run for re-election every two years.

WHAT IF I MISSED CANDIDATE QUALIFYING?

During all other times of the year, if there is a vacant seat in your district (see list below), you may apply to fill it until the next applicable General Primary Election. Simply attend the next Fulton County Democratic Party Business Meeting (time and location info can be found on the front page of this site), and fill out a one page application. The application fee for Post Seats is $35, payable to the Fulton County Democratic Party. If your address and voter registration information are in order, you will be voted in at the following month's meeting. If you have any questions about this process, or to request an application, contact  Chair Sam Westmoreland by phone at 404-707-0777 or via email: Sam-Mail@msn.com
